Presenting here with all 50 major events during 2006, that boosted the Economy of Orissa. Wish Lord Jagannath bless our state inmates and all it’s policy makers who architected modern Orissa.
1. 36 new projects for over 43 metric ton per anum of Steel (13 plants partly commissioned)- more than US$30 Bn investment
2. 4 new aluminum projects with more than 4 mtpa capacity under implementation (US$ 10 Bn)
3. 1 giant Titanium project (US$ 0.25 Bn)
4. Investors who added wings to wealth of Orissa are POSCO, Tata Steel, Bhusan Gp, Jindal Gp, Essar Steel, Hindalco, Vedanta, Aditya Aluminium, L&T-Dubal etc.
5. Rail Bus started it’s maiden journey on January 2006 in Orissa.
6. Foreign investment to Orissa rises up to 2,65,000 crores.
7. A total of 45 memorandum of Understandings by companies across the globe to build their manufacturing plants in Orissa in the areas of steel, Aluminum and power.
8. Baripada – Rupsa rail track inaugurated.
9. POSCO announced special packaged for kalinga nagar rehabilitations.
10. POSCO plans for personalized port at paradip.
11. Plans approved for 5 new industrial cities like Rourkela in Orissa.
12. 15 mtpa mega petrochemical complex by IOC ($6Bn)
13. Mega Petroleum, Chemicals & Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) under development at Paradeep
14. 3 MoUs signed by GoO for more than 3000 MW capacity
15. 10 proposals for 25,000 MW capacity under consideration by the Govt.(US$ 22 Bn)
16. Proposal for National Gas Grid and Coal Gasification mooted jointly by Reliance and GAIL (US$ 2 Bn)
17. Major names include Tata Power, Reliance Energy, UMPP, Sterlite Energy, Neyveli Lignite, CESC and GMR Energy
18. Development of industrial & social infrastructure in steel & mining corridors
19. Major expansion of Paradeep Port planned
20. 3 new ports (US$ 1.35 Bn) at Dhamra, Gopalpur and Jatadhari Muhan
21. 8 SEZs including 4 IT SEZ approved by GOI.(IT SEZ : Infocity, Infopark, Knowledge city & IDCO-Genpact BPO Complex)
22. Among the very few states to have the big four of the Indian IT; Infosys, Wipro, TCS & Satyam
23. Other major players include MindTree Consulting, Genpact, Hexaware Technologies and Contiloe Films
24. Group of investors form Silicon Valley setting up 5000 people IT/ITES facility
25. Target of exporting software to the tune of US $ 500 mn. by 2011-12
26. Integrated Textiles Park at Daleiput, Khurda
27. Bhubaneswar Airport modernization by AAI : 250 Crores
28. Road sector : Rs 20,000 Crores over next 5 years

47. Vedanta group to establish a world class technical university with an annual intake of 100,000 students in 95 disciplines.
48. Orissa’s economy is poised to grow at 7.1% over the next 10-12 years, the highest in eastern India
49. Orissa shall emerge as a centre for metals business in India and attract investments up to US$ 30-40 billion over the next 5 years
50. Orissa accounts for 11% of total investments in hand in the country
